Food Review: Roast Paradise

(located in Old Airport Food Centre, along same stretch with Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee, at one corner)

Mixed Roast Rice (Roast Pork/Char Siew)
Price: $5.50/$7.50 (additional char siew)

I was expecting quite a bit of queue as it's pretty popular but surprisingly the queue wasn't that long and clear pretty fast. The stall owner does his work pretty fast with all the chopping etc so the queue cleared pretty efficiently.

The ingredients would be the standard char siew / roast meat combo you typically get in Singapore or what you would call it "cha fou fan" in Cantonese. Instead of standard white rice, what you get is chicken rice, cucumber, the char siew and roast meat with the sauce put separately in another serving dish.

The chicken rice is pretty weak in flavour. Again this is not a chicken rice stall so that's alright with me. In fact I would prefer to have it with white rice instead especially if the rice is good & fragrant enough.

The char siew is sweet and smokey. In fact, I didn't even ask for half lean and half fatty portion and they have automatically mix the meats to give it that balanced texture by default is definitely a thumbs up. The char siew has a bit of charred bits here and there and it brings out that smokey flavour well. The taste is pretty unique and certainly not the usual Lee Kum Kee sauce or just pure honey flavour BBQ sauce for sure.

The roast pork is of pretty good standard as well. The inner of the pork has a bit of five spice powder flavour and the highlight would be the skin. The skin is very crispy and you can literally hear the crackling sound when you bite on it. Again good balance of fats and lean meat and it's not tough or fatty. Just nice.

The sauce is sweet and savoury. Good marinate honey taste with something special. Coupled with this char siew sauce, it's a pretty enjoyable meal.

In my opinion, I think it's certainly up there in terms of ranking for me on char siew and the other stall that might beat it is Hong Kong Roast 88 which is a stall that I will review soon once I find time.

In the meanwhile, I would recommend that you try it when you are around in the vicinity. It will not disappoint you.
