Food Review: Jian Bo Shui Kueh
(located in Tiong Bahru Market Level 2)
Jian Bo Shui Kueh
Price: 1 for $0.50. Min 5 pcs
Another local delicacy that is very famous in Tiong Bahru Market. It's almost and if not as famed as the Bedok Chwee Kueh in its own rights. So it's a definite must to try.
First the stall was manned by 2 ladies and it's very focused in doing Chwee Kueh. Although you can still get 2 other things that they sell (chee cheong fun and rice kueh) which I don't see anyone buying. So I guess it's better just to stick to the chwee kueh.
First taste of the chwee kueh reminds me of Bedok Chwee Kueh except it's more salty in nature. While it's also packed with the garlicky taste and cai po fragrance but it's focused on the salty taste rather than sweetness. It's very oily and you can expect the whole dish to be drenched in oil after (can be a good or bad thing). The cai po is also diced very finely which absorbs flavour of the oil very well.
The Chwee Kueh itself is firm and have a good rice flavour which any chwee kueh should be. The sambal chilli is good as well with good spicy punch and good heibi hiam flavour. But again it's very oily, please take note.
In summary, it's another paridgm of flavour being on the salty end versus the sweeter version from Bedok Chwee Kueh. So either way both are good so do give it a try if you are around in the area.
