Food Review: Devil's Fried Chicken
(located in Century Square, beside Tip Top and Gong Cha)
Devil's Fried Chicken
Price: $7.90 (Original / Mild Spicy)
New outlet in the neighbourhood! This is a very famous fried chicken outlet from Taiwan and it just happened to open around the same period as Monga Chicken. Monga is located in the West in JEM whereas Devil is located here in the East. Since it's so near our home, we decided to give it a try.
Surprisingly the queue is not too long as I heard the previous pop up stall had a 4-hour queue.
The ingredients used are pretty standard. It's basically chicken fried with a crunchy batter crust. Usually fried chicken are fried with either wet batter, flour direct or breadcrumbs or panko mix. For Devil, they are using the wet batter mix.
The batter crust is not too thick and it is using breast meat attached to chicken rib bone at the end which is quite huge for the size.
The marinate is sweet in general, with honey like and slightly (very mildly) spicy flavouring. The chicken breast is pretty juicy and cooked fresh.
The battered crust can be hard at certain part but generally crispy. It's not the usual type of batter crust like Shilin's though which I mentioned previously it's wet batter and feels more like fish and chips kind of batter with harder crust.
The spicy version is just having additional cayenne powder sprinkled on top of 1 side. Nothing too special on that though and not too spicy as well.
In summary, I feel that it's better than local Shilin stall as the meat is thicker in size and obviously of a different nature as Shilin's version is focused more on the seasoning and texture of batter crust. Again I'm a meat eater so the skin matters a little lesser in my opinion and flavouring of the meat is crucial for me so Devil is better in this aspect.
The size is pretty big and can easily fit into a meal size for average eater.
