Food Review: Chuan Heng Prawn & Pork Ribs Noodles

(located in Food Loft, opposite Fong Kim Exhaust, within an industrial estate)

Traditional Prawn Noodles (Dry)
Price: $5

Got to hear of this stall from some friends saying that the prawn noodles here are not too bad from an industrial estate point of view, so we decided to visit the stall for our breakfast.

The stall is located within an industrial estate within a non-air-conditioned food court. The stall owner is very friendly and warm. The stall sells other dish other than prawn noodles as well.

The ingredients. The standard yellow noodles, kang kong or water lily as some may call it, 4 pieces of big prawn, bean sprouts and fried shallots.

The taste. The noodles in dry version exudes sambal chilli flavour. Having said, there isn't enough punch on sauce and noodles mix though. Usually in prawn noodles, you should expect at least some fried shallot oil flavour and maybe even a little prawn broth flavour. But unfortunately, this stall doesn't have that. It's basically just pure sambal chilli flavour and nothing else.

The portion of noodles are adequate for big eaters but big size for average eaters.

One thing to note is that the fried shallot taste came later even though I have stirred it pretty extensively. This means that the quantity is too little or not flavourful enough still.

Soup wise, when it first came, it smells very nice and prawny but when you start to taste the soup, the prawny broth flavour is over taken by soya sauce taste else it would have been better.

The prawns are big and fresh for a $5 bowl though. If i were to choose again, i would probably choose the soup version as it seems to have better potential than the dry.

Frankly, it would receive a 3.5V if the noodles came with more sauce which could equate to better taste. Again if I have taken the soup option, I think it could be a better choice as well.

3V out of 5
