Food Review: Chef Choo Signatures
(located in Golden Mile Food Centre B1 or better known as Beach Road Market)
Update: After trying Chef Choo for 2nd time on carbonara, the taste is not as good as previous. The sauce is much weaker in taste and doesn't have the bacon infused smell and taste anymore. The standard might be inconsistent and hopefully Chef Choo can take note.
After seeing this stall going onto social media, gotta have this a go. So I came with my family over the long weekend to try out 2 of their much famed pasta.
The carbonara is very good. Sauce is creamy, ham and bacon taste is infused into the sauce. The consistency of the sauce is right, with a slight eggy and chessy taste together with the bacon flavour. The pasta comes with a lot of spaghetti in terms of quantity so much so I think it's really a little too much for my liking but it's good news for big eaters.
The ingredients are aplentiful as well, with the usual suspects expected in carbonara like bacon, ham and mushrooms.
All in all, a very well done carbonara and especially so with the price. Even with higher price, I think the taste is good enough to command higher price.
Sizzling Seafood Spaghetti
It's not the usual seafood marinara pasta that you will be expecting to get as the sauce is not as sour or tomatoey as compared to the standard sauce taste. The dish is cooked in a metal skillet and spaghetti together with the seafood, consisting of clams, mussels, prawns and squids are being mixed together in the hot skillet.
Of course with the stuff in hot skillet, you can expect additional wok flavour and sizzling hot punch to the dish. Remember to stir the spaghetti well as most of the sauce are at the bottom so you get the best flavour out of it. The sauce exudes extra garlicky taste on top of the tomatoey flavour (and nope the sauce don't seem to be standard bottled spaghetti sauce you get in supermarket which is usually a little more sour in taste) and comes with bits of char on the spaghetti if you forgot to stir.
All in all a pretty good plate of seafood marinara in hot skillet.
With the price, which I usually do not consider as part of the evaluation criteria, but the pricing and flavour is so competitive here that I have to give it slightly higher points if the flavour continues to hold.
Do give it a try when you are in the area.
